E. W. GILL
Op. 1810-1835
English School

Oil on canvas signed

E. W. Gill is recorded as having painted landscapes, country scenes, sporting subjects and portraits but most of his work is of still-life. He seems to have developed a penchant for dead game-birds and this subject matter appears most frequently in his later work.

He sent his paintings to the London exhibitions from a Hereford address and he showed eleven paintings at the Royal Academy between 1843 and 1855 with titles such as Dead Partridge and Dead Teal. He also exhibited at the British Institution and the Royal Society of British Artists at Suffolk Street.
